These risks include collision, leakage , pilferage, fire and storm, etc. If goods are properly insured, neither the exporter nor the customer suffers any loss. The passing of risk should be arranged properly between the buyer and the seller to a-void possible misunderstanding with regards to the responsibility of both parties. Theoretically speaking, the exporter insures the goods up to the point where the goods pass over the ship’s rail and the buyer takes responsibility from then on in a F. 0. B. contract. However, in practice, the customer usually buys insurance to cover the whole journey in F. 0. B. contracts from the exporter’s warehouse to the final destination.
