In 1980, the average family income was distributed in the following ways: 18% was spent on food, 25% was spent on housing, which accounted for most of the family expenditure. 10% on medical expenses, 7% on entertainment and 5% went to savings in the bank. The remaining 35% was channeled to other family expenses. In 1985, the picture was slightly different.
