The Grouping of the Gifted I agree with the opinion: we should group the gifted children as nearly as possible according to interest and ability. This will be beneficial to both gifted and non-gifted children. First, each student is an individual. Students are all different. There are slow students, average students and gifted ones. The same type of school work can’t meet their different needs and abilities. They should be grouped according to their interests and abilities. For gifted ones, they should be challenged with a type of programs that will help them grow to the fullest extent of their abilities and capacities. For slow students and average students, they can be trained to do better than they used to do, so that they will be more motivated and inspired. Second, the fear of creating a caste of intellectual snobs is unnecessary. Encouraging gifted ones to develop their special talents does not create envy or feeling of inferiority on the part of less gifted students. If students have proper attitude toward the differences, they will learn about themselves better. In this respect, teachers and administrators can do a lot. Last but not least, the grouping of the gifted can influence achievement significantly, If the talented students are grouped correctly and educated properly, they will have more chances to develop themselves and make greater success. As individuals, all students are endowed with certain characteristics and attributes, we should do more to help each individual grow accordingly.
