答案 The line chart indicates the value of the US dollar against the British pound from 1973 to 1988. We can see that in 1973 there were 2.4 US dollars to the pound. The value of the dollar increased slightly to 2.3 per pound in 1974 before returning to the 2.4 level in 1975. Then, there was a sharp increase in the value of the dollar to 1.6 per pound in 1977. The US dollar then gradually lost value until, in 1980, it was at the rate of 2.3 to the pound. It remained at this level in 1981 before rapidly increasing in value to 1.8 dollars per pound in 1982 and then to 1.5 dollars per pound in 1983. The dollar continued to appreciate in value at a more gradual pace until it stood at 1.2 dollars per pound in 1985, its highest rate over the period 1973 to 1988. Thereafter, the dollar depreciated quickly to 1.6 dollars to the pound in 1986, it remained at this rate in 1987 before declining further to 2 dollars to the pound in 1988. In summary, the dollar appreciated from 2.4 to the pound to 2 dollars per pound over the period 1973 to 1988, with its high point being 1.2 dollars per pound in 1985.
