The governor of Brazil Central Bank has begun discussions in the United States about repaying some of his country’s huge foreign debts. Taking part in the talks are representatives of the world’s leading commercial banks. Brazil has stopped paying interests on 70 billion dollars owned to the banks which are now refusing to lend it any more money. A BBC correspondent in New York says the talks are the most crucial since Mexico early defaulted on its foreign loans five years ago.
