A market is commonly thought of as a place where commodities are bought and sold. But there are markets for things other than commodities in the usual sense such as【C1】________estate markets, foreign exchange markets, labour markets, short-term capital markets, and so on; there may be a market for anything that has a price. And there may be no particular place to which dealings are confined. Buyers and sellers may be【C2】________over the whole world and instead of actually meeting together in a market-place they may deal with one another through telephone, telegram, cable or letter. Though dealings are【C3】________to a particular place, the dealers may consist wholly or in part of agents acting on instructions from clients far away. Thus agents buy meat at Smithfield on behalf of retail butchers all over England and brokers on the London Stock Exchange buy and sell【C4】________on instructions from clients all over the world. We must therefore【C5】________a market as any area over which buyers and sellers are in such close touch with one another that the prices obtainable in one part of the market【C6】________the prices paid in other parts.
Modern means of【C7】________are so rapid that a buyer can discover what price a seller is asking, and can accept it if he wishes, although he may be thousands of miles away. Thus the market for anything is,【C8】________, the whole world, but things have, normally, only a local or national market in fact, because nearly the whole demand is【C9】________in one locality. The main reason why many things have not a world market is that they are【C10】________or difficult to transport.
A) securities E) accidentally I) define M) communications
B) radiating F) costly J) sincerities N) resembled
C) affect G) restricted K) potentially O) real
D) scattered H) authentic L) concentrating
