T: How is your weekend? S: It’s great/ terrible, good, OK. / Not bad. T: What do you usually do on weekends? S: I usually play soccer/do my homework/ clean my room. . . T: How about your friend? S: She / He usually stays at home and watch TV. Justification: Students can review the phrases which they have learned before and pave the way for the following activities. Step 2 Presentation(5 mins) 1. Make a list of the verb phrases students said just now on the blackboard. For example: play soccer, do my homework, clean my room, stay at home, watch TV. . . 2. Go on asking students: What did you do last weekend? How was your last weekend? Help students answer, using the past tense of the verbs. Pay attention to the change of verbs’ form. 3. Point to the pictures(in the screen) and ask students to tell what they see. Name each activity and repeat in the past tense. At the same time, teach new words and phrases. 4. Listen and answer Students listen to the tape, work in pairs to ask and answer about what the girl did on different days. A: What did Carol do? B: She ride a horse… Justification: By contrasting the present tense and the past tense, students can easily grasp the focus of learning. Step 3 Practice (5 mins) Role- play the conversation in pairs. A: What did you do? B: I went… Justification : Students can practice the sentence patterns and improve their speaking ability. Step 4 Consolidation (5 mins) Students work in pairs and talk about their weekends. Justification: Students can use the key words and phrases to describe their own life. Step 5 Summary (2 mins) Students summarize what they have learned and the teacher makes supplements. Step 6 Homework (2 mins) Make a survey about what their friends or their parents did in their school trip. You can do it by using words and phrases in the period.
