In this part of the test you are given a discussion topic. You have 30 seconds to look at the prompt card, an ex ample of which is below, and then about 3 minutes to discuss the topic with your partner. After that the examiner will ask you more questions related to the topic.
1. For two candidates

Your company is going to hold a seminar on a certain topic about marketing. You have been asked to help with the preparation for the seminar. Discuss the situation together and decide:
•What facilities and seminar arrangements you will need to make
•Who you are going to invite to attend the seminar and how to contact them
For three candidates
                                                     Business Seminar
Your company is going to hold a seminar on a certain topic about marketing. You have been asked to help with the preparation for the seminar. Discuss the situation together and decide:
•What facilities and seminar arrangements you will need to make
•Who you are going to invite to attend the seminar and how to contact them
•Where and when you will hold the seminar

[Interlocutor points to the card showing the task while giving the instructions below.] Interlocutor: ?You have 30 seconds to read the task carefully, and then 3 minutes to discuss and decide about it together. You should give reasons for your decisiona and opinions. You don’t need to write any thing. Is that clear? [Interlocutor places the card in front of the candidates.] Interlocutor: ?I’m just going to listen and then ask you to stop after 3 minutes. Please speak so that we can hear you. [Candidates have about 3 minutes to complete the task.] A: You know, there is going to have a seminar about marketing. B: Yeah, fm just want to have a talk with you on that? Do you think what facilities and seminar arrangement we should make? A: Well. Whiteboard and water pen a projector, computers. B: Yes, I share your view on that, what’s more, I think drinking machines and coffee machines are also needed. A: Yeah. You remind me of something. Secretary. we also need some secretaries. B: I agree with you. Who are we going to invite to at tend and how to contact them? A: How about inviting some specialists on marketing to give speeches and some senior marketing managers? B: Nice. We have to hire some interpreters, to make the meeting go through well. A: That’s right. Some of them may not speak English well. [Materials are collected.] [The interlocutor asks one or more questions as appropriate, to extend the discussion.] How to contact them, A? A: There are wany ways available, can phone them fax them, and send e-mails to me, etc.
