答案
According to some journalists from Western media, coupled with the growth of Chinese population, this country will not produce enough food to feed its people. This statement seems to be reasonable, but it can not stand close scrutiny. Admittedly, China is a country that has a population of nearly 1.3 billion. In the history, this country did occasionally suffer from some food shortage crisis. These Western reporters, however, tend to neglect certain fundamental factors related to this issue. To begin with, contrary to the prediction of Western media, the population growth in China is slowing down and is well under control, owing to the implementation of the “one-child” policy. Furthermore, thanks to scientific development, new technologies are developed to produce more grains to feed people. For example, Yuan Longping, the famous rice expert, invents hybrid rice technology that can solve the problem of empty bread basket for more than 200 million people in the world. By and large, the situation is not as serious as those journalists say. Although a large population is a heavy burden to China indeed, as long as all the people face the problem bravely and try to solve it with a positive frame of mind, China will certainly walk out of the shadow of food shortage.
