            Change of University Graduates’ Expected and Real Income

Based on the data provided, one can see that their expectation has been on a steady decline. In the year of 2006, the postgraduates’ expected salary was as much as 6000 RMB, while it went sharply down to 4500 RMB in 2010. Meanwhile, the undergraduates’ expected salary by the month also dropped from 4000 to 3000. It’s of no difficulty to come up with some factors to account for the phenomenon. To begin with, with the rapid development of the Chinese higher education, the number of university graduates has been growing significantly. To put it in another way, the job market has been increasingly fierce these years. In addition, we must admit that a good many graduates have turned down-to-earth and taken a rational and objective attitude towards their ability and value. Finally, the fact cannot be ignored that the young have come to place more emphasis on the choice of lifework instead of monetary rewards alone. Taking into consideration what has been argued above, we may safely come to the conclusion that this trend is normal and therefore acceptable. Accordingly, it’s of no necessity for the public to regard it with too much anxiety.
