答案 The Show Should Go On Since 1983, CCTV has been putting up a variety of entertainment shows on the Eve of the traditional Chinese New Year every year. Some television watchers have got tired of the show and suggest that it be stopped and that some other shows like movies or news may be as good. But I don’t think the elimination of this show is a good idea. This show was created at the time when Chinese people hadn’t got over the shadow of cultural deprivation in the Cultural Revolution. Through the years it has become one of the three indispensable traditions for Chinese people (the other two being letting off firecrackers and a carefully prepared meal). All the top singers, dancers, entertainers gather together to put up a show to entertain hundreds of millions of Chinese people, most of whom will not get as much fun from other TV programs. Spring Festival is a time for family reunion and is also deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Since 1983, almost every television is tuned to Channel One, CCTV at eight o’clock sharp on the Chinese New Year’s Eve. This brings a sense of intimacy among Chinese people and makes them feel they belong together. Therefore, it would not be wise to stop the show on the Eve of Spring Festival altogether. It has become a part of Chinese tradition, and thus a part of Chinese culture.
