答案 Food Safety Nowadays, the public is increasingly aware of most of the risks surrounding food. Even the rats in the cartoon show great concern about the dangers from poison-contaminated food, wondering whether they can be unconsciously poisoned someday. Indeed, consumers who have every reason to be terrified to sit down at the dinner table are entitled to demand significant improvements in food safety. There are reasons to anticipate that someday the streets would be littered with rats and people lying here and there who are poisoned to death. To profiteer excessive gains, food manufacturers add dozens of man-made carcinogens to their products, so consumers may unconsciously and unwillingly take in too much of too many dangerous chemicals. That is why health professionals point out that victims have consumed far worse man-made chemicals in the food supply than anything natural. To make good food supplies even better, the Government needs to tighten its regulatory standards, Stiffen its inspection program and strengthen its enforcement policies. The food industry should modify some long-accepted practices or choose less hazardous alternatives. Last but no the least, consumers will have to do a better job of learning how to avoid potentially poisonous food.
