They Are Paid Too Much Sporting events and entertainment shows make millions of dollars every year. Therefore, many athletes and entertainers believe there’s nothing wrong with demanding a larger share of that money. These days, however, athletes and actors are demanding multi million dollar salaries. I think it has gotten out of hand. They don’t deserve such high salaries. First of all, athletes and entertainers don’t produce anything concrete. Nothing they do is useful to the advancement of society or civilization. History is full of examples of people who have done noble things to make this world a better place, e.g., doctors, researchers, scientists, leaders, builders, inventors, etc. These are the kinds of people who deserve high salaries. Perhaps athletes were useful role models in the past, but nowadays, more and more of them swear at the fans, use drugs, assault people, intimidate their coaches and generally act like animals. Secondly, their multi-million dollar salaries have made ticket prices so high that poor people can’t afford the admission prices. Athletes and entertainers blame the companies for raising the prices, but in fact, the companies are simply passing on the high cost of their salary demands to ticket buyers. Pretty soon, tickets will only be affordable to very wealthy people. Some athletes might claim that they have a personal right to make as much money as they want and that it doesn’t matter if only the wealthy can see them. However, I think all of them, in some way, relied upon the support of society to raise them and to get them to where they are today. It’s not right for them to simply turn their back on us now, just because they are successful. Finally, I don’t think they deserve such high salaries because they don’t need so much money to live a good life. How many houses and cars does one person need? Some of these stars have multiple homes and dozens of cars. Some even have private jets that they rarely use. What a waste of money! Their excessive salaries could be better used to educate poor children or to feed the hungry, I think famous athletes and entertainers make too much money for what they do, They don’t produce anything useful, they raise the tickets prices and they really don’t need so much money. Their excessive salaries can be better spent on curing some of society’s many problems.
