答案 Private Car Ownership in China Increased Rapidly As is shown in the graph, the number of private car ownership in China increased approximately six times from more than 2 million in 1994 to over 13 million in 2004, which is a blessing as well as a curse. To begin with, the graph implies that China has been developing rapidly since 1990s and Chinese have become more wealthy. But it also means a heavy burden on our urban traffic because those increased cars demand more roads and more efficient administration. In addition, it means more problems to the quality of our urban living: more waste gas discharge, noise and fatalities in traffic accidents. The rapid increase of private cars also poses a great challenge to our energy section, especially when energy is in short supply all over the world and the oil price keeps climbing. In my view, measures should be taken to control the rapid growth of private cars. Firstly, we should popularize private cars. Secondly, public transportation should be given priority. Only in these ways can we enjoy the convenience brought about by modern civilization.
