A school is being asked to apologize to the family of a boy it prosecuted for truancy. The boy was【C1】______as having " school phobia (恐惧症)," but what exactly is that?
Most adults can remember days when they【C2】______didn’t want to go to school. There would be【C3】______of illness, and of the danger of passing on an unpleasant disease,【C4】______the eventual acceptance that the journey into school was inevitable.
So many might react with【C5】______to the idea that there is such a thing as "school phobia. " But, says Nigel Blagg, author of School Phobia and Its Treatment, it is a condition that has been【C6】______since the 1960s and the worst ages for school phobia are 5~6 and 11—14. The term "school phobia" covers a(n) 【C7】______of different problems. Some of the younger sufferers can be diagnosed as having "separation anxiety", leaving them distressed at【C8】______from their parents at the school gate. But some psychologists say this is more about【C9】______, not phobia—a true school phobic will【C10】______a reaction even if their parents are present. Other children might be【C11】______sick for a prolonged period, fall behind with work and fall out of a【C12】______. Some might simply have changed school and lost friends they【C13】______on to feel secure at school. Still others may have had a【C14】______distressing experience.
But even if you do accept that school phobia exists, there can still be disagreement over the best approach【C15】______tackling it. Mr. Blagg insists that while educational psychologists, teachers and parents must be【C16】______to the child’s needs, they must recognize that【C17】______and getting the child back to school is necessary. Besides, there are some【C18】______of home schooling who believe that【C19】______than being a psychological aberration (心理失常)requiring a cure, the【C20】______of school phobia may simply indicate that the child is best educated away from the school, at home.
【C17】
选项
A、confirmation
B、collaboration
C、confrontation
D、contamination
答案
C
A)confirmation“证实”;B)collaboration“合作”;D)contamination“污染”。
