Ineffective time management is one of the major problems throughout the workforce. You have been asked to put forward some suggestions for improving the situation. Discuss the situation together and decide:

答案 Collaborative task and discussion (about 5 minutes) Interlocutor: Now this part of the test you are going to discuss together. [Interlocutor points to the card showing the task while giving the instructions below.] Interlocutor: You have 30 seconds to read the task carefully, and then 3 minutes to discuss and decide about it together. You should give reasons for your decisions and opinions. You don’t need to write anything. Is that clear? [Interlocutor places the card in front of the candidates.] Interlocutor: I’m just going to listen and then ask you to stop after 3 minutes. Please speak so that we can hear you. [Candidates have about 3 minutes to complete the task] A: Hi. Ms B, you know, everything seem to be in disorder in our company. And that obviously has a lot to do with poor time management. B: That’s the point. So time should be planned according to the importance of the tasks we need to deal with. A: So what do you think we can do so that time is managed effectively in our company? B: You mean what procedures we can adopt? A: Sure, That’s what our boss is asking us to do. Right? B: Right. I think we’ve got a lot to do. First, we should make all the staff members realize how important effective time management is to our company. A: Yes, Perhaps we can run a few training programs for them. If needed, we may invite some experts from outside to help us. B: Another thing we can do is to make all the managers, or even every staff member, come up with a job discription of their own. In this way, they can be pretty sure about what they are responsible for and what they are not. A: Good idea. So to sum up, our company should run a few training courses, and every staff member should write a job description of their own. [Materials are collected.] [The interlocutor asks one or two questions as appropriate, to extend the discussion.] What kinds of rules should top managers come up with? What’s your view, Ms B? B: Well, I think the top managers of our country should come up with a set of rules as what kind of jobs should be given priority to. In this way, we can make sure that important tasks are dealt with first.
