A Maybe different people will spend their vacations in different ways. As for me, during the vacation what I most like to do is to travel around. Nowadays in China almost all middle school students have no time to travel; they have to put themselves to heavy assignments for the entrance exam to college. So as a college student, I’d like to travel during my vacations. I can learn much from traveling, such as the customs and culture of other provinces or countries. Besides, traveling can promote my character and personality like self-reliance. So I enjoy it. E How did you spend the Spring Festival/May Day? A Spring Festival is the most important festival in our county. When I was a little child I anticipated the Spring Festival. In a child’s eyes, Spring Festival means fine and delicious food without homework. Now I’m a university student, Spring Festival still means leisure without homework for me. I can go back to my hometown, spend this festival with my dear parents. My whole family can get together, and my parents will not feel lonely being together with my sister and me. E What do you think is the best way to spend your holidays? And why? A I think it depends on which holiday I’ll spend. If it is Spring Festival or summer holiday, I’d like to go back to my hometown to spend this holiday with my parents. If it is May Day, I’d like to spend my holiday traveling with my friends. I can learn a lot through traveling especially the local customs. What’s more, trave-ling with friends is a good idea. We can share some special feelings; we can learn how to solve problems all by ourselves, and it’s helpful to develop the ability of self-reliance. E Thank you. Now we’d like to know something about you, Candidate B, so I’m going to ask you some questions. E How did you spend the Spring Festival when you were a child? B When I was a child, the economy of China was underdeveloped, and my family was very poor. So the Spring Festival meant much to me then. There would be fine and delicious food. I didn’t have to do my homework. I could go to my relatives’ home to play with my cousin. Usually most children would receive some money given to them as a Lunar New Year gift, but I had none. I remembered I envied those children who received this gift. E How do you prefer to spend your holidays, with your parents or with your friends? Why? E Do you think we have too many holidays? Why do you think so? B No, I don’t think so. I think the number of holidays we have now is reasonable. As a university student, my holidays include Spring Festival, May Day, summer holiday and National Day. In these holidays, we can rest or travel after tiresome study or work. We usually feel very energetic after the holidays, and they make us study or work more efficiently. Besides, in the holidays, the economy can be stimulated greatly by the sudden increase of consumption.
