答案 Kids in schools are frequently forced to attend various "remedial classes" or training programs during summer or winter vacations. As depicted in the cartoon, a child, like a caged bird, is protesting against all sorts of after-school classes, which render his summer vacation a false one. In a sense many children nowadays have lost their childhood, which should be a carefree and happy time of their life, and their innocence has been largely eroded by too many classes and high parental expectations. Children are hurried by their parents, schools and media to go through their childhood in a fast way, while the adults who are experiencing too much pressure and frustration from their work or life are likely to transplant their anxiety to their children. They will compel their children at an ever younger age to compete for success, which consequently deprives children of their vitality due to the fear of failure. Can the gains from those extra training programs and competitions outweigh the loss of childhood which has been considered a dispensable part of one’s socialization by many psychologists? Perhaps, only when parents form a clear answer to this question will the situation in which many children could not have a carefree vacation be reversed.
