答案 How to Find the Book You Want The library is going to be very important to you in your research. Knowing how to use it saves you a lot of time and gives you much pleasure. Suppose you have made up a bibliography in one of the reference rooms. Now you go to the Central Hall where the card catalogue is kept. All the books in the library are listed under three different headings: author , title and subject. In other words, each book is listed on three different cards: the author card, the title card and the subject card. Each card contains a lot of information about the book and all cards are arranged alphabetically. If you want a particular book and know its title, you look in the drawer that covers the first word of the title and find the card bearing the title at the top of it. If you don’ t know the title of the book, but know the name of the author, you look in the drawer where the author’s last name is filed. If you want a book about a particular subject, say linguistics, but know neither the title nor the author, you then consult the librarian.
