David Goldspink, Professor at Liverpool John Moores University, examined more than 250 men and women between 18 and 80. Each of them【C16】______five hours of tests to measure their blood pressure and the performance of their heart while at【C17】______and while they exercised on a treadmill (跑步机).
The researchers found that the large arteries (动脉) in the body became【C18】______and less elastic (有弹性的) with age, causing increased blood pressure.
