Why did John apologize to Ms. Jones?

W. I heard that John quit his job this morning.
M: How do you know that?
W: I overheard him talking to Ms. Jones when I passed by the office. She was very annoyed about it.
M: What did John say to her?
W: He apologized again and again to Ms. Jones for not notifying her earlier.

M: Well, you are teaching two classes now, what do you think of the students in both of the classes?
W: Oh, some are good and some are bad in both classes.
