答案 On Developing Speaking Ability In teaching a foreign language, most of the Chinese instructors give priority to the development of reading skills. They tend to think that speaking practice is of no use because most Chinese students have few opportunities to talk with foreigners. That is the reason why the importance of speaking has not been understood and emphasized properly. In fact, speaking is one of the most important means of communication. Much of our information goes to other people through speaking. Practically, we are often faced with situations where a great deal depends on our ability to speak. In s uch cases if we can’t make ourselves understood in a foreign language, communication will be cut short. Therefore, it is extremely important to develop speaking skills in learning a foreign language. In my opinion, one can’t learn a foreign language well without practising speaking. Hence, we need to give serious attention to the development of speaking ability in foreign language study.
