However, some people are worried about the potential risks brought about by WeChat’s positioning function when using it to socialize with strangers. As far as I am concerned, it goes to extremes to abandon an invention just because of its potential risks. Firstly, WeChat brings about great convenience to users for communication. It overtakes other communication applications in several aspects. One is that it consumes less data flow compared with other tools, especially when sending an audio clip. Another is that its latest version contains a game which ranks the user’s score among his/her friends and that adds spice to the user’s life. Secondly, WeChat pays more attention to privacy than other communication tools. For example, if someone leaves a message about your photo, nobody but your mutual friends can see the message. However, with other tools, everyone—as long as they are listed as your friends—can see all the messages your friend has left. All in all, while embracing the convenience of WeChat, we have to take measures to guard against its potential risks. As long as we are aware of the risks which are inherent in the software, we can safely enjoy the surprise brought by recent technological advancement.
