答案
E Now, I’d like you to talk about something between yourselves. You should take care to share the opportunity of speaking. A I think water pollution is most harmful to our health. Our body is mostly made of water. So, polluted water is most harmful to our health. Drinking unclean water will make you sick and sometimes kill you. To avoid this, nowadays most people buy pure water or mineral water. Many families have their own purified water dispenser. B In fact, the tap water used in our families has been processed by the tap water factory. It is of no harm to our health. We don’t use or drink the water in rivers, which is dirty and poisonous. It’s difficult to process polluted water, but polluted water doesn’t do damage to our health directly. Maybe water pollution is most harmful to the species living in it. A Yes, I think so. Water pollution is not the most harmful to care. As far as I am concerned, air pollution is most harmful. As everybody knows, polluted air is poisonous and it does damage to our health. If the air contains impurities, they may be absorbed by our bodies and make us ill. We need clean air, but unfortunately, air pollution is generally present, especially in cities. But it is impossible to process the air before we breathe it, as how the tap water is. The only thing we can do is to decrease the amount of pollutants given off by the motor vehicles and factories. B I’m afraid I can’t agree with you. Water pollution and air pollution are both harmful to our physical health, but noise pollution is harmful to our psychological health. From my point of view, psychological health is more important than physical health. A But how can you say so? I say psychological health and physical health are both important to us. Can you give us your reasons? B The reason is very simple. We human beings are different from other creatures. If there is something wrong with our minds, physical health is meaningless. We can’t work and study; we can’t lead our lives happily. I’d rather choose death. A Maybe what you said is reasonable to some extent. But physical health is the foundation of psychological health. If you feel uncomfortable physically, it’s obvious that you won’t be comfortable psychologically. B I couldn’t agree more. But I think air pollution is more harmful than water pollution. If the air pollution existed in only one place, it would influence the air of other places. The air we breathe is the same to some extent. Nowadays, no area in the world is completely free of air pollution. We must take measures to control it. So, I think air pollution is most harmful to our health. B What can we do to make people more environmentally conscious? A Firstly, mass media is responsible for making people more environmentally conscious. For example, commonwealth advertisement should be often broadcasted on television, in newspapers, and on the radio. Secondly, the government is also responsible for this. Government should invest more money into activities which will make people more environmentally conscious. Finally, every citizen is responsible too. In our daily lives, we should be conscious of protecting the environment. If people around us are doing things harmful to the environment, we should stop them. A Where do you find more pollution, in the cities or in the countryside? Why do you think so? B Certainly there is more pollution in the cities. Our cities have many factories to make food products, clothing, and many other things we need. Every day these factories pour millions upon millions of tons of smoke and soot into the air. Power plants that burn coal add greatly to air pollution. Our cities also have many motor vehicles, which give off numerous poisonous gases to the atmosphere. Millions of people live in big cities, producing a great deal of garbage. B What can the city government do to promote environmental protection? A Firstly, the city government should invest more money in constructing facilities of environmental protection, such as garbage processing factories. Secondly, the city government should invest money to make people more environmentally conscious. It can sponsor discussion on this topic, and encourage companies to make commonwealth advertisements. Finally, the most important thing the city government should do is to strengthen the supervision of environmental pollution. A Do you think the environment today is cleaner than before? B Yes, of course. But I can only speak for Beijing. Beijing is much cleaner than before. Streets are tidier; rivers are cleaner; air is purer. The government and citizens of Beijing have done much to clean the environment. Three years ago, all taxis were replaced by Xiali or Fukang, which give off less poisonous gases than that of minibuses. People are also more environmentally conscious.
