The organization of a nationwide medical work has enabled Chinese people enjoy better medical services and public health conditions. For example, the infant mortality rate has reportedly been decreased and the average, life expectancy has been prolonged to 67. 88 years, both figures approaching advanced international levels. The adequate health work has essentially changed the causes of death in China. With the establishment of more medical institutions and the implementation of the protective measures, the incidence of many diseases has dropped and the diseases such as plague, smallpox and cholera, etc, have been basically wiped out. However, to provide better medical services and health care conditions for one fifth of the world population, China will have a long way to go.
