Will you read something that’s a book—the sustained train of thought of one person speaking to another? Search techniques are embedded in e-books that invite people to dip into something rather than follow a full train of thought.

    We’ve maintained in the last few years there will be fewer bookstores. We have the best business model in the world. There are people with agendas in this industry, but the physical book is going nowhere.

    E-readers take out the paper middleman and give me what I want from books: the words. My e-reader has allowed me to read more than ever. When I travel, I can take five books with me all without cutting down a single tree or using any extra jet fuel. Books made of paper can be beautiful, but they are never as beautiful as the words in the best of them.
