South African police and the African National Congress reported that at least 46 people were killed in South Africa’s townships over the weekend. At least 13 were killed in the Vaal triangle townships south of Johannesburg. Bodies were found in various parts of Sebokeng, Sharpevillc and Evaton townships had been hackled, stabbed or shot. More than 8,000 blacks have been killed in fractional fighting in the past three years of apartheid reform, mainly between supporters of the ANC and its rival Inkatha.
