A USA TODAY investigation July 18-19 found that 84 air ambulances have crashed since 2000, more than double the number of crashes during the previous five years. The newspaper’s investigation, which included an analysis of 275 air ambulance accidents since 1978, found that government inspections of the industry have been haphazard and inadequate.
