答案 Grouping Students According to Their Levels It is becoming more and more prevalent in universities that students are grouped according to their English levels when taking English classes. The most obvious advantage of it is that teachers can adopt different teaching materials and methods in different classes, which are selected just for those students. The gap between different levels of different students being minimized, teachers are free from the dilemma between "too fast" and "too slow", which is considered to prohibit the progress on both sides. Nevertheless I don’t agree with this kind of classification. For one thing, as far as I’m concerned, the students whose English is not good may feel embarrassed and shameful when asked which class they are in. For another, it hampers the communication among students. In a traditional way, students in different levels take English classes together, and they may learn a lot from each other, which does good to the improvement of their English. There is no denying that this method is just like a double-edged sword, but the dangers outweigh the benefits in my opinion. Some other measures should be taken to help students’ learning English.
