答案 The table above shows that electricity consumption in a small city in China tended to be on the increase year by year. In 2004, it was at the level of four million six hundred thousand kilowatt, increased by 12.41% over the previous year. The total amount consumed in 2005 added up to four million seven hundred and twenty thousand kilowatt, multiplied by 2.51% . Although the consumption in 2006 dropped a little, decreased by 0. 8% , then in 2007, there was a big jump with an increase of 12. 88% , totaling five million two hundred and sixty thousand kilowatt. The rapid increase of electricity consumption shows that electricity has been playing a vital role in our life. Without it, our world would be in a state of confusion. For one thing, machines in factories would stop running and we would have to go without many essential industrial products. For another, our life would be seriously affected. For example, we would have to light a candle and could not watch TV or listen to the radio. Vital to all aspects of modern life, electricity is far from being sufficient. However, some people fail to see the point and use electricity with extravagance, hence a huge waste of electricity. According to a recent survey, twenty percent of electricity is consumed for unnecessary purposes. For example, many electronic devices are always put on standby. Or lights are turned on, even when there is no one inside. What is worse, road lamps may sometimes shed light in broad daylight. Therefore, it is urgent that everyone of us should cultivate a strong sense of saving electricity.
