   In order to live better in the world, some people give priority to obtaining financial gains. Others, however, seek to derive meaning out of life elsewhere, thinking that material possessions cannot buy happiness. Analyze these stances and raise your own point of view.

However, there is no consensus on the definition of a better life. Some people regard wealth as the main source of a happy life, while others believe that material possession cannot buy happiness. In fact, to live a better life, great importance should be attached to both financial gains and our inner world. There is no denying that wealth plays an important role in influencing life quality. It is the foundation for a decent life. We cannot expect a man to disregard earnings and work for honor when his family struggles to make ends meet. Only when we are no longer financially bothered can we start more meaningful careers. However, hardly can we derive enjoyment from material possessions alone. Happiness is not determined by the clothes that we wear, the house we live or the bank balances we hold. Rather, it depends on whether we can find meaning in what we are doing. Bill Gates is a case in point. With his wealth surplus, he begun to devote himself to a far-reaching charity career and shoulder the social responsibility to improve other people’s living condition. Trapped by various temptations, we often find it hard to be content. In fact, less sometimes is more as a-long as one feels joy and peace in our inner heart. Henry David Thoreau pointed in his famous book Walden that he believed in simplicity, and in simplicity he found enjoyment and happiness. To lead a more gorgeous life, we not only need to work hard to improve our material life but also should take a short journey out of common busy days to smile the flowers. To sum up, a better life is very promising when we earn more as well as satisfy our inner world. First of all, we must equip ourselves with professional skills and knowledge to gain competitive edge in the workplace. Secondly, having a higher degree is also a good stepping stone for a better income. Thirdly, we need to have courage to leave things alone when feel burdened. " A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone. " Therefore, we are closest to the happiness if we make the best of what we have.
