答案 In the picture, a man is showing his love to a for eign lady in a western-styled dress. Left alone and ig nored, a Chinese lady with traditional Chinese-styled dress stands beside them. The intention of the picture is to call for a balance between the foreign language learn ing, represented by the western lady, and the Chinese learning, represented by the Chinese lady. In my opinion, foreign language learning and Chinese learning are equally important. On the one hand, Chinese is our mother tongue, which is the root of our culture and identity. It is also the key to the time-honored Chi nese philosophical thinking and the classical Chinese liter ature. If we do not master Chinese, we would not have the access to the great civilization that has survived thousands of years of vicissitude. On the other hand, for eign languages open many windows for us and broaden our horizons. In the age of globalization, information and knowledge are transmitted instantaneously. If we under stand the first-hand materials in their own languages, we would be able to keep up with the changing time. In conclusion, foreign languages and Chinese are like two arms of our body. We could not afford to use one arm only and give up the other.
