What is the purpose of the announcement?

Good afternoon, everyone. I just wanted to let you all know about an interesting opportunity. Central High School is looking for volunteer judges for its science contest, to be held next Saturday. It’s a good chance for our engineering staff to promote science among our youth. The school also needs volunteers to take photos, keep score, and clean up. All participants must attend a 2-hour training and orientation session at the school at 6 p.m. On Friday, and dinner will be served. Please see me later if you are interested in participating. Now I’m going to photocopy the school’s list of volunteer positions, and I’ll post it on my door.
