    Dear Dean Green,
    I have learnt from your school newspaper that you are seeking a Chinese teacher for short-term Chinese course run by your department. I am wondering whether you consider my application for the position as I wish to gain some academic background from your college．
    I am a male visiting scholar of 45 from China. I graduated from Jilin University, China, specializing in physics. But I sometimes attended lectures in the Chinese Department, and I am fond of the Chinese classics. Every week, I can afford to teach Chinese conversation for ten periods as I am on vacation now．
    You may obtain further information about my fitness for the position by telephoning the dean of the department where I am working．
