Read the texts from a magazine article in which a teacher Paul Smith and four students are talking about their studies. For questions 1 to 5, match the name of the students (61 to 65) to each of the statements ( A to G) given below. Mark your answers on your ANSWER SHEET 1.
Paul Smith:
Hello, everyone. Today let’s talk about study performance. Perhaps you are an average student with average intelligence that you will never become a top student. This is not necessarily the case, however. Every one is likely to be a top student without additional work. Now it’s for each of you to discuss how we manage it.
Carol:
From my personal experience, the planning of time is of the greatest importance. We must make a list of our weekly tasks. Then make a schedule or chart of the time. Fill in committed time such as eating, sleeping, meetings, classes, etc. Then decide on good, regular times for studying. Good planning will make you more aware of how you spend your time. Furthermore, it will enable you to plan your activities so that you have adequate time for both work and play.
Simon:
As to me, it is important to develop .a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. So don’t worry excessively about a single test. Tests provide grades, but they also let us know what we need to spend more time studying, and they help make our new knowledge permanent.
Laura:
I do think that study place is critical in our study. A good study area is supposed to improve our study efficiency. It may be a desk or a chair at home or in the school library, but it should be comfortable, and it should not have distractions. When you begin to work, you should be able to concentrate on the subject.
Davis:
I think regularity matters a lot. In class, we should listen carefully to what the teacher says, go over the notes as soon as possible after class and review important points mentioned in class as well as those we remain confused about. This will help us understand the class better. If we review the notes and textbook regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer.
Now match each of the people ( 1 to 5 ) to the appropriate statement.
Note: there are two extra statements.
Statemnts
[A] To ensure your study efficiency, you should choose a good studyarea.
[B] If you set your mind on your studies, you’ll become a top one.
[C] Regularity plays nothing more than anything in studies.
[D] Regularity plays an critical role in our studies.
[E] Your school performance depends on how your study habits.
[F] We should develop a good attitude about tests.
[G] It’s important to have a good planning of our school time.
