Everywhere I turn these days, I see video ads. I do a search on the web for information for a book, and there’s a video. I’m drowning in videos and have no time for anything else. I know I’m old-school, but doesn’t this bother anyone else? There are days I just can’t deal with someone chatting with me in an attempt to get me to buy something. Give me something to read and the choice to watch a video if I choose. But don’t try to hook me with a video I won’t watch. I’ll simply delete it. The ones I really hate are the ones which put the script up on the screen, so you can read it and hear it at the same time. Or PowerPoint presentations with someone reading the same thing I can read on the screen. But since I read faster than the person speaking, I’ve finished reading before they’re halfway done. So I’m left to sit there and stare angrily at the monitor while I wait for the speaker to catch up. Usually, I just close the video and delete the email. So even if it might be something I’d like, I’ll never know. It’s in the bin. Advertisers, promoters...give us a choice! I feel it’s a waste to take so much time to gain so little information, especially when the first video leads to another video, and another, and so on. Give me the choice to read an advertisement r watch the video. And then if I’m interested in it, I’ll have a look.
