Read the extract below, taken from an interview in a media magazine. The Editor has invited readers to contribute articles entitled; "Books—An Endangered Species?” Write an article responding to the issues raised and expressing your own views.
Some people believe that books are an endangered species, fighting for survival in competition with TV, film, the Internet and CD-ROMs. But I believe books provide unique intellectual pleasures. The mind is free to create its own images, rather than passively receiving them from a TV or computer screen. It’s just as easy to open a book as it is to switch on the TV or computer, and often more convenient.
Write between 100 and 120 words on the Answer Sheet.

答案
With the flood of TV, film and the Internet, more and more people, especially the young, are drawn away from books, making the books an endangered species. In my mind, it’s inevitable according to the survival of the fittest theory. The function of books is to provide information or pleasure. However, with the development of technology, the books are now not the best way to do it. For example, with the Internet, we can get quick access to any information we need in no. time instead of spending time in the library fishing a needle out of the sea. However, that does not mean books should be eliminated. Books do have their merits in spreading knowledge and happiness and they will continue their life for their’ special values.
