    It began in France in 1582. People celebrated New Year on March 25th and the celebrations went on until April 1st. When New Year’s Day is changed to January 1st, some people still celebrate the New Year on April 1st and those people were called April Fools.
    People can play some simple tricks on April Fool’s Day, such as say "your shoe’s untied!" or putting your brother’s alarm clock back an hour. Sometimes the newspaper even gets into it. For example, a British short film was once shown on April Fool’s Day. It was a-bout "farmers" and how they got their crops from the trees. It ended by shouting to the victim, "April Fool!" at last.
    On April Fool’s Day, nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a little fun holiday, but you must be careful that day, or you may be the next April fool!
    Each country celebrates April Fool’s differently. In France, the April Fool is called "April fish". The French fool their friends by putting a paper fish to their friends’ backs and when someone sees this trick, they call them "April Fish!"
    In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle". In Scotland, April Fool’s day lasts 48 hours and you are called an "April Gowk", which is another name for a cuckoo bird.
