答案 Which One Is the Key to Environmental Protection, Technology or Awareness? The advancement of technology benefits the cause of environmental protection in many aspects. The application of hi-tech environment-friendly materials such as degradable plastic bags helps reduce the white pollution. Clean or alternative energy makes factories more fuel-efficient and cuts down the air pollution. Therefore, some people begin to put technology before people’s awareness of environmental protection. These people ignore that we humans are both the inventors of technology and the destroyers of the environment. I once met a well-dressed woman who munched on an apple on the bus. She threw the peel on the floor even though she is sitting right beside the bin. Do you believe people like her, who don’t even use the garbage bin, will use technology to protect the environment? Besides, in today’s society, consumerism leads to unnecessary consumption, the consumption of extra resources creates more trash. To lessen such wastes, we need to be aware of our lifestyle and live a simple life instead of developing technology to produce more products. Moreover, it costs us less to improve people’s awareness than to develop technologies. To reduce radiation, we can reduce the use of cell phones; to cut down the white pollution, we can decrease the use of plastic and industrial products; to lessen the emission, instead of taking modern transportation, we can choose to travel by bike or on foot. Protecting the environment is an enduring mission, but even the longest journey begins with a single step. Therefore, technology must function on the basis of a civilized and advanced mind.
