答案 The line chart given above reflects the relationship between the extinction of wildlife and the population explosion. According to the figures, the US population increased dramatically from 0 in 1800 to 250 million in 1990. By contrast, the number of wild species no longer existing rose from 10 in 1600 to 70 in 1900. It is apparent that environmental protection is of utmost importance in our everyday life. However, few people have such environmental awareness. For one thing, for those without self-disciplines, exploiting more natural resources means more profits. Therefore, they are unlikely to shoulder their social responsibility and fulfil moral obligation. For another, when governmental departments concerned fail to give direct control and supervision, those interests-oriented companies or organizations are more likely to bring damage to ecological balance, and species are doomed to vanish. To conclude, such a trend will probably develop more dramatically in the future. Therefore, it is advised that administrators and the authorities should keep taking measures to reverse such trend, and it is only by consistent and persistent efforts that they can ultimately eliminate the misdeeds.
