Companies should often ask their employees this question: Would you buy our product or service? Or would you recommend your company to your family and friends? The best market research can be gathered when such questions are asked. And research of this kind is often credible and inexpensive. Unfortunately, many employees—when they are asked—say no, even though many use similar services or products. This is one of the causes to a company’s decline and it is so obvious that most people do not recognize it. After all, why should other customers use the company’s service or product if employees are not willing to buy it themselves? When employees lack confidence in their company’s products, management must find out why. Management may need to adopt corrective actions. If employees are proud to buy the product they produce and encourage others to do so, they leave a positive impact on the operation of the company. Consuming one’s own product highlights areas of excellence and can uncover activities that need improvement. Such discussion can make employees do the best jobs possible; it also encourages workers to view themselves as valuable sources for the company.
