Isn’t this picture thought-provoking? What the painter aims to reflect is a worrisome phenomenon in our society: some young people have lost interest in traditional Chinese culture. Unfortunately, these people are not rare. In a survey on 6213 people, the majority of respondents reported they had seen or heard of such people. They cited that some young people despised traditional Chinese medicine. They mentioned that many young people thought Chinese drama was outdated in the modern society. The gap hetween tradition and modern world is normally considered as the cause for this problem. However, actually, the main reason is that today’s Chinese young generation hasn’t realized the importance of traditional Chinese culture. Then how can we make a real difference to this situation? For one thing, cultural education should be promoted. For another, we should make a reform on current methods of interpreting cultural classics.
