答案 I disagree with the statement. In my opinion, young children should be allowed to use the Internet. The Internet is one of the history’s greatest inventions. It has proven to be one of the most useful tools known to men. With just a couple of clicks, information from all over the world is available to all. The Internet is not only an instant source of news from around the world, but it is also an enormous source of knowledge and wisdom. It is, therefore, very important that children learn how to use the Internet from a young age. Teaching children how to use the Internet from an early age will greatly help with their education and all round development. However, it is very important that young children be protected from unsuitable websites and software. There are many websites on the Internet which are definitely not suitable for young children. Some of them contain adult contents and others are too violent or frightening to be viewed by a child. There is also the danger that, through the use of online chat rooms, a child could come into contact with a dangerous individual. It is, therefore, extremely important that a child be protected from unsuitable material on the Internet. There are different ways to achieve this. Firstly, a parent could insist on only letting the child use the Internet under adult supervision. This would ensure that the child would not arrive at any undesirable locations on the web. While the parent is supervising, he or she could also tutor the child on how to use the Internet. Another way parents could protect their children is through the use of Internet firewalls and software that block websites with adult or violent contents. This option would allow the child to use the Internet without supervision. Lastly, parents could ensure that their children learn about the Internet at school under the supervision of a teacher.
