答案 Environmental protection is, no doubt, one of the most important global issues in modern society. The public has proposed many different ways to show concern for the environment. Admittedly, the three ways suggested in the question are all very effective. Yet, among the three ways, I think the second way—reusing and recycling waste materials—is the most useful action. I have the following reasons to support my choice. The foremost advantage is exhibited in the reduced amounts of waste materials. Currently, the growing amounts of waste materials lead to an increasing number of landfills, which cause many problems in the world, especially in the context of rapid development of urbanization. The landfills compete with sprawling cities for land, exacerbating the shortage of public space and residential areas. If more waste materials are reused and recycled, the amount of waste that goes to landfills can be significantly reduced. The waste materials recycled can be used to produce new products. This will help alleviate the shortage of natural resources, a problem we are facing now. Reusing and recycling is regarded as the most useful way also because it has the edge over the other two methods. It is unrealistic for people who have a long commute to ride a bike or walk to work. They might feel too tired to work after spending so much time in riding or walking. The third option, buying locally produced organic foods, protects the environment by reducing the chemical contamination caused by non-organic farming and the carbon footprints caused by transporting foods. However, it is worth noting that local organic foods can be expensive. The prices may cause extra burdens for individuals and families; therefore, it is not the most useful way for most people. In comparison, everyone is able to reuse and recycle waste materials, which will not induce extra time costs or financial burdens for them. To sum up, reusing and recycling is the most favorable way for most people to protect the environment. in fact, there are many successful examples of this method to encourage people to live in a more environmentally friendly way. Japan is such a typical example. lt took about a generation’s time for it to establish the current system of recycling and reusing since 1990s, and now Japan is considered one of the cleanest countries in the world. Therefore, I think that this method is definitely worth being promoted.
