When (say the name of Candidate A)has finished talking , I’d like you (say the name of Candidate B) to ask him/her one or two questions. You may make notes while you are preparing and take notes while the other person is talking. All right? Here are your topics.
(Hand over the Topic Card A & B, and some blank paper and a pencil to each candidate.)

I’d like you to select one of the topics and give a short presentation for about a minute. Key: With the steady growth in the country’s economy as well as in people’s standard of living, fashion has become a big business and influences a lot of people’s daily life. Some people think that others have become slaves to fashion. They suggest that we should wear comfortable and reasonably priced clothes and shouldn’t just follow fashion blindly. But other people argue that ever-changing fashion is the inevitable result of the advance of human civilization and is also a mirror of social progress. We should therefore keep up with the tide of the times. Both sides have their supporting reasons, but personally, I agree with the former. There is no doubt that longing for beauty is a natural thing. Everyone wants to display their best side and impress others. Fashion has already become a flourishing industry, which contributes a lot to both the economy and society, creating many job opportunities. Furthermore, people’s longing for beauty and pursuit of fashion promote the prosperity and progress of the garment industry. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that there are also disadvantages to the pursuit of fashion. All things that are popular are not necessarily good things. It is a fact that obsessively following fashion has led many youngsters astray and they easily become disoriented. It is also a costly hobby to follow fashion, leading to extravagance of time and money. A mature and rational person should have ideas of their own and should not be led by the nose. Actually wearing comfortable and reasonably priced clothes has many benefits: being comfortable, economical and decent. Last of all, convenience and simplicity should be encouraged and valued. In a word, we can not deny that the love of beauty is an essential part of all healthy human nature. Variety adds spice to life. A world without fashion is unimaginable. However, we should take a more critical attitude towards the pursuit of fashion. We shall never be slaves of fashion, and avoid unrealistic comparison. The principle of dressing we shall hold on to is to be neat, tidy, clean, decent and convenient. Following the fashion blindly should be discouraged.
