答案 As is shown in the picture, two small trees have been planted under a big tree. Although it seems that the small trees grow well under the protection of the big tree, it can be expected that they will soon meet troubles as the taller tree of the two is beginning to bend because of the barrier from the big tree. Clearly, the big tree has become a two-edged sword; on the one hand, it protects the smaller trees; on the other hand, it keeps the smaller trees from growing taller. What the picture conveys here is that excessive protection will only lead to negative results. Take some Chinese children as an example. It is alarming that a large portion of them are under excessive protection, much in the same situation as the small trees in the picture. This is partly attributed to the arrival of the "only child" generation, who are pampered and spoiled by their parents or grandparents. Leading a life full of love and sweetness, these children are ignorant of failure, hardship, and the taste of tears that abound in real life. Therefore, when they leave home, they might be overly sensitive to frustration and easily suffer from depression that prevents them from a happy and promising future. This type of child is not what we need for the future of our country. On the contrary, we need to nurture a generation that is fully prepared for independent life, so that these children are ready to confront any challenges, adapt to changes of environment, and survive the heated competition in today’s world.
