答案 According to the graph, from 1995 to 2000, only a period of six years, there is a steady rise in the tourism expenses of both the urban and the rural residents in China. The annual expense of the city dwellers, for example, increased by 46.3% from 464 to 678.6 yuan per person during the period, while that of the farmers jumped over threefold from 64. 5 to 226.6 per person in the meantime. Clearly, people both in the cities and the countryside are spending more and more money on travel. A careful analysis of the chart above may reveal the reason behind the trend, which involves three causes. For one thing, the rapid growth of economy enables people, both urban and rural, to put tourism on the agenda after meeting the basic needs such as eating and housing. In addition, travelling and sightseeing not only bring about recreation on the part of the visitors, but also expand their horizon by acquainting him with fascinating local customs as well as beautiful natural or human wonders. Last but not least, travelling and touring will serve as a long-awaited get-together, which will stay long in our memory. Although we are happy to see the tourism industry flourishing , the potential drawbacks can never be neglected. According to a recent survey, the neighboring environment is decaying around some scenic places. The overall view is spoiled by buildings which are awkward and out of place. However, the pros of tourism outweigh the cons. The healthy, sustainable development will be at hand only if we strike a successful balance between tourism development and environmental protection, and attach importance to allocation of resources and inheritance of cultural heritage.
