答案 The table above clearly reflects the statistics of accidents happening in a Chinese city. According to the table, in 2005, the traffic accidents in the Chinese city still failed to arouse concerns of both drivers and pedestrians. The number of accidents that resulted from drivers turning left without due care rose 10 percent to 608, which is highlighted on the first row of the table. The accidents related with drivers driving under the influence of alcohol enjoyed the greatest increase, a 15% rise. In comparison, those pedestrians who cross roads carelessly also led to 401 accidents. By analyzing these causes displayed in the table, we may reach the conclusion that both drivers and pedestrians have little respect for traffic laws. As noted above, countermeasures should be taken immediately so as to reverse the grim situation. First of all, relevant laws and regulations should be established to severely punish those drivers or pedestrians who violate traffic rules openly. In addition, a widespread education campaign should be launched to inform citizens that proper rules for them are of benefit to public safety. Only in these ways can we live in a disciplined and harmonious society.
