So far, the most active group of volunteers is made up of college students,who offer a range of free services for important sports events or international conferences, or Other Social welfare activities. Voluntary services are of great significance in modern society. For one thing, such social problems as unemployment, unbalanced distribution of social wealth, and crimes will probably worsen in the process of economic transition. In such case, social support in the form of voluntary services will help those disadvantaged better able to cope with their problems. It’s in this sense that we say volunteerism fosters social cohesion and contributes to social stability. For another, volunteerism is sort of social capital. The social responsibility towards those in need will greatly help to build social mentality, a crucial factor for a country’s development. From my point of view, people have become aware of the importance of voluntary services. But there is still a misconception that volunteerism simply means material aids in the form of money. In effect, volunteerism means social support in a broad sense-the offering of time, effort, information, ideas and money as well. And now it’s high time for people to know more about the idea, and to actively participate in social welfare activities.
