My cousin Steven got his own room at last when he was six years old. Since the birth of a younger sister, he’d been sharing a room with her. At school he heard from some of his friends that they all had their own rooms. Naturally, he decided to ask for a room of his own. He began telling parents as often as possible that he wanted a private room in their house that bad been used as a storage room. They cleaned out the room and fixed it up. When they told Steven that the room was his, he was extremely happy. He made plenty of rash promises that he never kept, especially about keeping it clean.
On the first night that he slept in his new room, there was a terrible thunderstorm. It was the first thunderstorm that Steven had ever experienced. Light was flashing and the thunder was so loud that the house seemed to be shaking. After a few minutes, his parents went to his room. They thought he’d be scared to death in all that noise. But Steven wasn’t scared at all. He was just mad. He looked so angry that his face was red. He said, "Now I understand why you gave me this room. It’s so noisy here that no one else wanted it."
